Behind the site

About Start a Side Business in Germany

A personal project by Luis Godoy Alvarez: practical notes, guides and a start plan for people who want to build something of their own on the side in Germany.

Why this exists

Starting often feels more complicated than the first step really is.

Many people do not start with a finished business plan. They start with a skill, an idea or a small request from their surroundings. Then terms like Gewerbeanmeldung, Finanzamt, Kleinunternehmerregelung, receipts, bank account, employer or imprint suddenly appear.

This site is meant to sort the beginning: what you need to understand, what you need to check and which step is useful next.

Personal context

Documented by Luis, from hands-on starting experience.

I document the things I would have liked to understand earlier while starting Niflheim Records and helping friends with side business questions.

The author page explains why I collect this knowledge, how Freya fits into it and where the boundaries of the content are.

How the site helps

Knowledge to read. A plan to sort the order.

Read

Guides and topics as a knowledge base

Many questions do not appear on day one. The guides are there when registration, employer, receipts, account or taxes actually come up.

Sort

A start plan for your order

The start plan asks about your situation and turns it into a first priority order: what matters now, what to check and what can wait.

Ask further

Freya for follow-up questions in context

After the plan, you can ask Freya targeted questions. She builds on the start plan, but does not replace tax, legal, insurance or financial advice.

What the start plan clarifies

Not everything at once. First the next decisions.

  1. 01where you currently stand
  2. 02which question should be clarified first
  3. 03which registration, tax or bookkeeping topics become relevant
  4. 04which official bodies or sources you should check
  5. 05which guides or provider categories really fit the situation

Principles

Practical enough for the start, careful enough for real decisions.

Order before actionism

Not every topic matters immediately. The site should help identify the next sensible decision.

Experience plus sources

I write from my own starting experience and point to official sources when topics become more binding.

Recommendations without pressure

Providers and tools should appear when they make a step easier, not because a list needs filling.

AI with clear limits

Freya can sort and explain. Binding tax, legal, insurance or financial questions belong with qualified sources.

Transparency

The site may be useful and earn money.

This site can receive commissions through provider links. That can support the project, but it must not decide which recommendation appears in the start plan.

The content gives orientation and does not replace tax, legal, insurance or financial advice. When something must be binding, official bodies or qualified advice belong in the process.

Next step

Turn the idea into a first plan.
